Hanover Inn

With over 100 years of history, the Hanover Inn turned to Korn Design to create a timeless brand identity that fosters a feeling of tradition and sophistication, while looking towards the future. As a historical cornerstone of the Dartmouth Campus, the Inn has a unique position as the primary place for both newcomers and returning alumni to gather and collect memories.

Drawing inspiration from the beautiful natural scenery in the Upper Valley region of New Hampshire, the brand identity pays homage to the natural, earthy colors and materials of the surrounding area. The typography for the logo is adapted from an original Dartmouth woodblock cut typeface designed in 1969 by Will Carter and Paul Hayden Duensing.

An elegant pine branch illustration over the typeset name evokes the historic Lone Pine of Dartmouth College. Guests are immersed in the beautiful New England environment through the use of natural materials and textures, pine needle patterns, and breathtaking photography of the White Mountains by photographer Eli Burakian, ’00.

Complementing the recent Hanover Inn interior renovation, the new identity helps to re-establish the Hanover Inn as a vibrant hub and meeting space for the Dartmouth Community and New England visitors.
